5 TYPES OF PRESIDENTIAL DOLLAR COIN : For each and every President featured in the series, there will be 5 different coins issued. The types are described in detail below.
TYPE 1 P AND D MINT MARK PRESIDENTIAL DOLLAR COINS : Type 1 P and D mint mark coins are the most known of the 3 different versions of Presidential Dollar Coins. Type 1 P and D mint mark Presidential Dollars have a normal finish. The production for each presidential dollar coin design is limited to about 12 weeks, then are never produced again. Every 3 months a new coin is issued in the type 1 P mint mark and type 1 D mint mark president dollar series.
TYPE 2 PRESIDENTIAL DOLLAR COINS : Type 2 P and D mint mark Presidential Dollar Coins are produced by the United States Government for collectors / investors and are not issued to the public for circulation. The type 2 Presidential Dollars have a satin or silk finish and are limited in production, there are far fewer type 2 P and D coins produced than the type 1 P and D coins, this is because type 2 coins are produced at a much slower rate to produce nicer looking higher quality collectible coins.
TYPE 3 PRESIDENTIAL DOLLAR COIN SETS : Type 3 Mirror Like Presidential Dollar Coins are produced each year by the U.S. Government for collectors / investors only. Type 3 coins have a mirror like background finish with a contrasting frosted finish design and are at least ten times more rare than the type 1 P and D mint mark coins! The coins are produced at a very slow rate of production, every step in the producion of these coins takes longer than either type 1 or type 2 coins, the type 3 coins must have a mirror like background and must meet specific high standards to be released, coins with specific flaws or misprints are destroyed by the U.S. Government and are not relased except in error!

Special information about the various levels of quality for mint condition uncirculated collectible coins
QUALITY OF UNCIRCULATED COINS MS60-MS70 There are 10 levels of condition for mint condition uncirculated coins. The scale for rating mint condition or mint state uncirculated coins is MS60 to MS70. The initials MS represent Mint State (mint condition) MS60 coins will have little eye appeal with several scuffs and scratches, some severe. The luster (shine/surface) of coins in the Ms60 or MS61 grades may be dull and unattractive. MS61 coins and MS62 coins will have fewer scratches than the MS60 grade coins, with less severity but will still not be very attractive coins. MS63 coins have better eye appeal, the scratches must not be very severe and the number of them will be fewer. MS64 coins will have no severe marks, very few medium sized marks which may be in the prime focal areas (the areas you notice at first glance when viewing a coin once or twice) MS64 coins are disqualifed from a MS65 rating if they have marks in those areas such as the field (empty surface of the coin) in front of or directly behind the main design (Bust image, eagle, statue, podium, building, etc.)

Back to the quality levels for collectible coins! ~ An MS65 coin will have no such marks on the face of the design subject, such as on the cheek or forehead of a President on a dollar coin. Any marks on an MS65 coin will need to be noticed only after you have viewed the coin for about 10 seconds. There should be only a few light marks and a few scuffs that are not readily noticible with the unaided eye. MS66 coins will have only one or two light marks, none in any prime focal or secondary areas of the design. MS65 coins and above should be viewed with 5 times magnification. MS66 to MS69 coins are designated higher grades based on strict guidelines, the number of marks, the location of the marks, the quality of luster and general eye appeal. To grade MS65 and above will take years of practice before you are accurate at grading them. Grading is subjective, subject to the opinion of the grader. Equipment, setting and lighting may affect the ability to accurately grade a coin, even the mood of the person grading the coin will have an effect on the final summary and grade designation!

Type 2 P and D mint mark Presidential Dollars are special coins produced by the U.S . Government for collectors and investors only, produced with more attention to quality, the coins have a much stronger, more bold design and the coins surface has silk finish with very few if any small marks upon the coins. Type 2 P and D mint mark Presidential Dollar Coins are sealed into protective coin preservation display holders before shipment by the U.S. Government and are very high qualtiy coins!
